Anyone want to learn to do a handstand with me? It’s been on my goal list for a while now, if anyone wants to join me in a challenge let me know!
Today’s link of the week is from our friends at Precision Nutrition:
All-or-nothing thinking — “If I don’t do this perfectly then it’s awful” – rarely gets us “all”. It usually gets us “nothing”.
This article describes how to break that cycle.
Happy June! How are those 2015 goals going? We are already 6 months in to 2015, it’s probably time to look at where we are and what we need to change. Keep chugging along and don’t forget to celebrate your achievements along the way. Remember, small changes will equal big results if we just stick to them. Happy Monday! What are you going to make the effort to do this week?
Today’s fact or fiction was inspired by a comment made reader irrationalliving who stated in Monday’s comments that “Failure is not fatal”. I simply cannot state enough how much I love this! So many people fear failure. It has such a negative connotation to it. There are few phrases harder to say then “I have failed”. But there are few things more powerful than reaching for failure.
How can you learn what your limits are if you don’t push past them? Ever hear of the idea of working to failure in weight lifting? It’s an amazing tool to build strength. You lift a weight until the muscle fails. Until you can’t lift with proper form anymore. Your muscle fails you. But through that failure it grows. The same is true in life. We all fail at some point. It’s how we handle the failure that matters. Do you learn and grow from it or let it defeat you?
I’m a big believer in pushing your limits and not being afraid of failure. Of setting goals so big they scare me. I mean really, really scare me. It’s in striving to meet these goals that I discover not only what I am truly capable of but also what I am made of.
I’m currently on a quest that terrifies me. And that fear and excitement and knowing that failure is a real possibility keep me going. I’ve hired experts to help me reach my goals but anything can happen on this quest. The possibility of failure keeps me (safely) pushing my limits. I’m scared of what lies ahead, but not of failing. If I fail I’ll once again pick myself up, dust myself off and go forward on another impossible quest.
So don’t fear failure. Embrace the possibility and let it propel you forward into the impossible.
Fall off the healthy eating wagon this Easter? Me too! Don’t kick yourself for it, we all need to indulge and enjoy life. Creating a healthy life is part of creating a healthy body. Now that the holiday is over pick yourself up, dust yourself off and let’s get back to it!
This week’s link is a great summary of the changes a woman’s body goes through when she begins lifting. Often women give up lifting too quickly (or never get started at all) for fear of getting bulky. Ladies, we do not have the hormones required to get bulky! Not without the use of mostly illegal supplements anyway. Do not fear the weights, the benefits of weight lifting are many and the subject of a future post.
Here’s a quick and easy full body workout. You can do this anywhere, even in a small hotel room. No equipment necessary!
Happy Monday! Here’s to a great week 🙂
