Raise your hands if you’ve heard of Bullet Proof Coffee! It’s been all over the internet for a few years now and I have to admit, I did not jump on the boat. I hate coffee. It hurts my stomach, makes me jittery and it doesn’t taste good. Why on earth would I try bulletproof coffee? I’ve avoided it, even when I was told it wouldn’t give a tummy ache or the jitters. Then last week I had to get up early after a late night out. I’m not 20 anymore and don’t do late nights well. I had to be up and alert for a meeting so I decided to try my own spin on bulletproof coffee. OMG, I am in love!!! Not only is it absolutely delicious (dessert for breakfast?) but wow, it really makes me feel good.
Friday mornings I wake up before 6 to get to Toastmasters by 6:30. I have never been good at eating breakfast, unless I’ve been up for over an hour my stomach isn’t happy. So Toastmasters is rough for me. I don’t get home until 9 and about half way through the meeting I get really hungry. It’s just late enough I’m finally ready for breakfast, but the meeting is going strong. This all changed with my own spin on bulletproof coffee before last week’s meeting.
Traditional bulletproof coffee involves mixing a Tbsp of Gelatin (click here for some of the many benefits of gelatin) and some healthy fat (butter or coconut oil) into a cup of coffee. As I mentioned earlier, I do not like coffee. Add that to the fact that I thought the recipe could use some protein power. So I came up with the recipe below. It kept me satisfied and feeling great until 11:00. A cup in the morning keeps me fully satisfied until lunch time. I’m a bit more awake AND have no jitters. Color me sold!
1 Cup Hot Coffee (please use organic, coffee is one of the most heavily sprayed crops)
1 Tbsp Gelatin (grass fed please – I use this one)
1 Tbsp Butter (organic grass fed) or coconut oil (your choice!)
1 Scoop Dymatize Iso 100 Gormet Chocolate Whey Protein Powder (you can find it much cheaper than Amazon)
Blend together and enjoy your super healthy yummy dessert breakfast drink
