Raise your hand if you’ve seen those expensive bottles of alkaline water popping up in the grocery store. Ever wonder if this is just another fad or something your body can benefit from? I was asked about this on a race course last month and still stand by my response then: I’m personally saving my money. I’ll be honest, I hadn’t done much research on it at the time so I was very excited to see this article by Precision Nutrition verify my thoughts.
Whether or not our water needs to be alkalized, what I do know is that there are much cheaper ways to alkalize your water than buying the bottled stuff. I personally put a drop of lemon oil in just about every 8 oz of water I drink. When using any essential oil, be careful to buy the pure kind. I use doTerra. At $10 per bottle, it’s an incredibly cheap way to keep my body running smoothly and my water tasting great! Just fair warning – lemon oil WILL eat through plastic so ensure you are using a stainless steel or glass container for your water.
In addition to alkalizing your water, the benefits of lemon oil are numerous! A few of my personal favorite uses are to sooth a sore throat and to help keep my liver functioning smoothly. I also spray a mix of lemon & eucalyptus oils on my gym towels to keep my asthma at bay while working out.
So just say no to those expensive bottles and do things the natural and cheaper way with lemons!
