A local spa in the area is selling infrared body wraps, claiming they burn several thousands of calories in the hour, just by laying there. Ladies in the area claim they lost several pounds using this machine. I’m actually sure they did. If you sit and sweat for an hour, you will lose water weight. However, you will not lose fat nor burn thousands of extra calories. You will not! Similar to classes done in hot rooms, the caloric burn is not higher than the class done in a comfortable room. Sweating does not equal caloric burn. We sweat spending the day sitting out in the sun. We might not sweat during a hard day of skiing. Which burns more calories? Not the one that leaves us sweating!
